Taking an at-home test can feel intimidating the first time—especially when you’re collecting a sample and mailing it back. This guide breaks the coVee™ process into three simple steps, with a short video for each step.
Quick reminder: Always follow the printed instructions inside your kit if anything below differs.
Before you start (takes 2 minutes)
-
Choose your collection day:
- Plan to collect on Day 2 of your period (Day 1 = first spotting; Day 2 = the next day when flow is usually heavier).
- Plan to collect on Day 2 of your period (Day 1 = first spotting; Day 2 = the next day when flow is usually heavier).
-
Pick a window:
- You’ll wear the menstrual disc for 4–12 hours, so choose a time when that’s convenient (workday, evening, overnight—whatever fits your routine).
- You’ll wear the menstrual disc for 4–12 hours, so choose a time when that’s convenient (workday, evening, overnight—whatever fits your routine).
-
Set yourself up:
- Wash your hands and have a clean surface nearby (counter/shelf) to place your materials.
Step 1: Open your kit + get oriented
This first video shows you what’s inside the coVee™ kit and how to set everything out so you’re not figuring it out mid-step.
What to do while you watch:
- Open the outer box and locate the menstrual disc, pipette, and transport vial.
- Find the prepaid return mailer/box and set it aside for later.
- Read the “Day 2” note so you know exactly when you’ll collect.
Pro tip: If you’re a little nervous, watch all 3 videos once before collecting—then come back and follow along step-by-step.
Step 2: Collect your menstrual fluid sample
This is the main step: you’ll use the menstrual disc to collect fluid, then transfer a small amount into the transport vial.
The collection flow (simple version)
1. Insert the menstrual disc on Day 2 of your cycle.
2. Wear it for 4–12 hours to collect menstrual fluid.
3. Remove the disc, then use the pipette to draw up 1–2 mL of fluid.
4. Dispense the fluid into the transport vial and close it securely.
Helpful tips:
- If you’ve never used a disc before: go slow, breathe, and follow the video exactly.
- If your flow is lighter than expected on Day 2, you may need to wait for a heavier flow day in a future cycle—don’t force it.
Step 3: Pack your sample + mail it back
Once your vial is filled and closed, this last video shows how to package it correctly and send it to the lab.
Packing + mailing checklist
- ✅ Confirm the transport vial is tightly closed
- ✅ Place the vial into the provided packaging (use only what came in your kit)
- ✅ Seal the return mailer/box exactly as shown
- ✅ Mail it back within 24 hours of collection when possible
Weekend note: If you collect on a weekend, refrigerate the sample and ship it on Monday (per kit guidance).
If something goes wrong (don’t panic)
A few common hiccups are easy to handle:
- Missed Day 2:
- If you still have a good flow day shortly after, you may still be able to collect enough sample.
- If you still have a good flow day shortly after, you may still be able to collect enough sample.
- Not enough fluid / spilled / delayed shipping:
- Follow the kit instructions first, then reach out to support for next steps—many situations can be fixed.
What happens after you mail it?
Once the lab receives your sample, results are typically available in about 7 business days in your secure portal. Your report is designed to be easy to share with your clinician so you can discuss next steps.
